Like a psychological inkblot test, I see one thing and that in turn expands into other things, and then finally, a finished piece. It feels like the rock is communicating to me what it wants to be. When faced with a shape that doesn’t fit with my idea for the rock, I find myself thinking “What is this supposed to be?” rather than “What am I going to do about this shape?” It is like the rock is planned out and I just have to figure out what that plan is. This doesn’t always happen, perhaps because I was just too impatient to figure out the puzzle.
